Trinity College Music Rehearsal Hall
Trinity College completed a building campaign aimed at strengthening its programs in the Fine Arts. One such project is the new Music Rehearsal Hall, located at the rear of the Austin Arts Center. In addition to the rehearsal hall itself, the new building houses faculty offices, music practice rooms, an electronic music suite and a recording studio.
Acoustically, the building is very sophisticated. Each classroom and rehearsal room as well as corridors and doorways are designed to block sound transfer. Strategically placed resonator walls, acoustical clouds, and pocket draperies in the rehearsal hall allow the room to be tuned for optimal acoustics for a wide variety of music, from a solo violin to the sounds of a 40-member samba ensemble.
The mechanical systems for the building required careful design to minimize vibration and sound interference within the building. The systems are also designed to High Performance Building standards.
