CREC Museum Academy
Bloomfield, CT
Museum Academy represents a true melding of architecture and program: a facility designed to support a unique educational pedagogy. Here, students develop their curiosity about the world through visual arts, living museums, performances, and exhibition. The PreK-5th grade students must learn to present their work in a “museum-like” manner via visual arts, music, and dance.
The Academy’s unique spaces emulate a professional museum, showcasing student exhibits within a creative, hands-on, themed learning environment. Corridors and classroom entrances function as galleries, displaying student work. The gymnasium doubles as a performance venue with theatre lighting and stage. The building’s focal point is the second-floor suite of studios and an impressive, airy gallery featuring floor-to-ceiling windows, skylights, LED lighting, and video art monitors.
