Charter Oak Health Center
This design “as new” expansion created a 64,000-SF community health center to serve the Hartford and surrounding community with patient-centered healthcare in a medically under-served area.
The five-story addition doubled the number of medical exams and behavioral health therapy rooms and tripled the dental operatories. The design includes a pedestrian-friendly entrance plaza, a welcoming curvilinear glass wall entrance lobby, low-E window glazing and a new roof. Interior partitions and new finishes created a modern, state-of-the-art health facility that provides pleasant, patient-friendly areas for internal medicine, pediatrics, women’s health, senior wellness, radiology, mammography, bone density, optometry, laboratory, and nutrition education.
In addition to new health services, the project also added administrative and executive offices, community meeting rooms and new staff cafeteria, kitchen, and locker rooms. Mechanical work included new plumbing, fire protection, electrical, and efficient heating and cooling systems.
Phase 2 of the project tackled the repair of a three-level parking structure, with two levels under the COHC.
The Charter Oak Health Center project was awarded LEED Silver Certification.
